Runaway x Maderas Beach Co

Back in Spring, I met with Gabe, the genius behind Runaway Brand, to discuss some ideas he had for custom swimwear for his brand. He has a small store in downtown Durham and has a cult-like following of Durhamites who love his witty and weird designs.

We chatted for a bit about what I do and what he was thinking. When I asked how many pieces he was thinking, he said 60-100. My jaw dropped. Needless to say, that's my biggest order ever. We settled on 46 because of the timing. We wanted them out by early June and I would be gone 3 weeks in May. I think I ended up with 29 days to complete all the suits.

My mom had to come down and help. Thanks mom!

Gabe designed a cool floral print in two colors and a logo print with his rabbit logo, and I designed 3 complementary solids. We used the Capri style and the Marianne style bikinis, and I designed a new one-piece, called the Palermo.

The Capri is the one we all love. Fixed triangle top. Skinny side bottoms with contrasting sides.

The Marianne is a midi top, not bandeau, not high neck. I love it. It laces up in the back. The bottoms also feature lacing on the sides.

The Palermo has a scoop neck, and low back with lace up straps. It's the best one-piece ever. Hands down.

The swimsuits are gorgeous and fit beautifully with the rest of their 2018 summer collection, which has the theme, "Endless Bummer". The lookbook is available here and you can shop the bikinis here

Summer Collection Is Here!

The 2016 RTW collection is finally available. Have you seen it yet? It's stunning, and the best part is that all styles and all fabrics are mix and match, and reversible, of course. A bikini-lover's dream come true! This is my signature collection. From now on, you'll see these styles available in the season's fabrics. I hope you love this collection as much as I do.

These bikinis also come in three coverage options - Brazilian, cheeky, and moderate; and sizes are from x-small to x-large, woohoo! If you haven't tried one of my bikinis yet, you're missing out on one of the best fitting and most flattering bikini options out there. And I'm really not overstating this. I've poured over my patterns and previous bikinis and have settled on styles that are universally flattering, comfortable, and secure. Personally, I've worn many bikinis that really sucked, even some of my own! And these ones, these take the cake. Nothing digs in. Depending on your cut preference, nothing rides up. I will always advocate for the cheeky style, it makes bums look phenomenal. Don't be scared. Check out the styles below, tell me your FAVE, and shop them on etsy.com/shop/maderasbeachco :*

And, you can now support MBC and show off your #LIVEINTHESUNSHINE life by purchasing one my Sunset Tanks. They're super soft, long through the body, and just the right amount of sexy up top. Available at etsy.com/shop/maderasbeachco

Updates!

It seems I've gotten a little behind on my blog here, huh. Well, to be fair, I've been a wee bit busy.

Let's just say preparing to sell your fixer-upper house is no small task... But now that an offer has been accepted, I can breathe again, and get back to building this business.

So, what's new? The shop link now redirects to Etsy. I'll be selling product through Etsy, including some bomb-ass new tank tops with my fave motto - Live In The Sunshine, and bikinis! The summer collection is inching along (peeling wallpaper interrupted my progress), and IT IS GORGEOUS. For real. I'll be selling ready to wear bikinis in x-small through x-large. Stay tuned, I CANNOT WAIT for you to see them! I'll also be adding some other products going forward, like maybe a beach blanket and a bikini bag...

What else... well we just got home from a week in St. Maarten/Martin so I'll be sharing photos from that trip soon, along with some tips for enjoying the island. In the meantime, enjoy the sneak peek photo on the home page. Special thanks to my husband for capturing that (maybe he has latent photography skills after all...).

In just a short amount of time, I'll be relocating to North Carolina, much closer to the beach and enjoying a saltwater pool at our new apartment. Expect cool things to come of that.

I think that's all for now. Stay tuned for deets on traveling to the Caribbean islands of St. Maarten/Martin and St. Barth's. :)

New Bikini Collection at Taylor Monroe Boutique

So I have some exciting news to share! I recently completed a small collection of designer swimwear for a small boutique in my town named Taylor Monroe. They're a little over one year old, but they're making a name for themselves. It's so inspiring to see a team of entrepreneurial young women get creative and work hard to create a gorgeous brand and become a beloved little shop. They carry a ton of cute styles that women of all ages find appealing.

I am an employee there (which I love), and one day, I thought, how fun would it be to have a small collection of swimwear designed exclusively for TayMo!? I proposed the idea to my boss and she loved it, because she's awesome. So at the beginning of the year she and I picked out three bikini styles and a variety of fabrics, and I got to work making 18 swimsuits.

Well, I've just finished them and they're ready to be photographed and put on the rack. I want to give you a first look at the styles so you can be prepared to purchase when they go online :)

Remember, these are only available at Taylor Monroe! You can shop online - www.shoptaylormonroe.com and on their Instagram - @shoptaylormonroe.

Delphine: Floral & Striped String Bikini

She's flirty, cute, and a little sexy. She might be found lounging around the private beach of a French resort... We picked a pretty floral and classic stripes and paired them with light coral pink straps. The peekaboo top is cute and sexy, but also holds the gals securely, and the classic string bottom is universally flattering.

Juniper: Floral & Light Blue High-Neck Bikini

She's sporty and adventurous, girly and brave. You might find her cliff-diving instead of lounging on the private beach, or maybe she's out catching some waves. The pretty floral makes another appearance, but paired with the soft baby blue, it becomes a bit more modern and sporty. The high neck top isn't going anywhere, and the wide, multi-string bottom is secure and fun.

Marissa: Black & Floral Wrap Bikini

Of this girl-gang, she's definitely the edgiest. She's as likely to be found wearing big chic sunglasses at the hotel pool as she is skating down Miami Beach Boardwalk in cutoffs. We've got another floral here (big trend for spring/summer '16), but this one is high contrast and paired with the always-chic black. The wrap style top is comfy and flattering, and the minimalist criss-crossed bottoms hug curves.

Do you have a favorite? I really can't decide... But I will say, I custom designed the white floral and I'm really enamored with it. :)

Sizes are small, medium, large. Small fits approximately a 30-34" bust, 34-36" hip. Medium fits approximately a 34-37" bust, 36-39" hip. Large fits approximately a 37-40" bust, 39-43" hip.

First Flight, Now Fashion

The First Flight Now Fashion Couture Ball was a wonderful experience. Here are a few photos and videos my husband captured from his VIP seat!

I am so grateful to DE-FI for the opportunity to do this, and so grateful to my models for being good sports and marching down the runway in so little clothing! ;)

Please follow DE-FI on Facebook for more photos and videos in the next few days!

Oh. And if you dig the music (and because I spent a long time working on it, also thanks to Vince Marcheski for the help), here's a link to the spotify playlist. :)

Urban Nights Downtown Dayton

Tomorrow, Friday, May 9, is downtown Dayton's Urban Nights (assuming it doesn't get rained out!).

Urban Nights is kind of a big deal - approximately 30,000 people attend! It's an evening of celebration for local businesses, "a huge, all-inclusive street party and open house for downtown".

Local shops and restaurants will offer special discounts, artists and galleries put on a show, musicians and entertainers will be found all throughout the city, and even some of the downtown residences will be open for touring.

I'll be participating in the Fashion Boulevard on St. Clair and 3rd/4th. There will be previews of the designers' collections, mini fashion shows, street makeovers, yoga in the street, music, and a "selfie station" (so look your best!).

The whole event is completely free and benefits all of the businesses and artists in downtown Dayton, including designers, like me, in the First Flight, Now Fashion Vintage Couture Ball fashion show on Saturday.

If you're in Dayton, you must come! It's going to be a blast. Just pray for no rain!

Read about all the events at Urban Nights right here. And make sure you come see me at Fashion Boulevard!

Hawaii & The Fashion Show

Today my husband and I are beginning our journey to Hawaii. It's going to be a lot of traveling and nonsense, my husband has bronchitis, and we have middle seats on the second leg of the flight. We'll be those people. The ones hacking their lungs out and getting up to use the bathroom 100 times. Oh well. You can't be too upset sharing a plane with everyone on it going to freaking Hawaii, right??

A Weekend of (DE-FI)ance

Last week, while researching places to distribute my press release, I discovered the Dayton Emerging Fashion Incubator, or DE-FI for short. They have a fashion week and runway show in May. It caught my eye, but was I too late to register?
